Starting On Low Carb Diet, Fantastic?
If you’re thinking of starting on a low carb diet, make sure you have all the facts before you begin. As much as it may seem that diets low in carbs are beneficial in helping you lose weight, diets with minimum amounts of carbs can actually be detrimental to your health. Your body requires a certain amount of complex carbohydrates in order to sustain energy and with those, you will be tired and run down.
In order to keep your energy high while you are dieting, you want to make sure that the carbohydrates you restrict are the simple carbs such as sugars, white potatoes, white rice, white bread, sweet cereals, and other sweets such as candy, cakes, and cookies. In substitution, choose unbleached flour, brown rice, wheat bread, and oat, bran, barley, or wheat cereals that are not already sweetened.
Before starting on a low carb diet, do some research and make sure you know the advantages and disadvantages and what to expect. Some diets restrict all of the carbohydrates, while others reduce or eliminate what we commonly call “white carbs” such as those containing refined sugars and bleached flour.
If you aren’t certain, eliminating “white carbs” will put you on the right track. You don’t want to restrict too many of the complex carbohydrates, because those are the ones that give you energy and work with the proteins to burn the fat. The fat burning process requires a certain amount of carbohydrates and proteins in order to do its job, so it’s important to keep a proper balance.
Diets with minimum amounts of carbs can be healthy and beneficial in helping you reduce your weight as long as you make certain you have the minimum amount of carbs based on your weight. Be wary of diets that eliminate carbs completely, because not only will you become bored with the program, you will find that you are so tired, you cannot stay physically active or remain mentally focused. The idea is to lose weight, not wear yourself out.
The condition of your health is important, so make sure you don’t have any health issues that would restrict you from participating in any kind of diet. Before starting on a low carb diet, consult with your doctor in order to assure there are no underlying health concerns, especially if you have recently been ill.
If your immune system is not in top-notch condition, you may want to wait before you consider diets with minimum amounts of carbs. The restrictions will be a jolt to your body, so allow it to completely recover before starting any diet. You want to improve your health, and you can’t do that if you start a diet when you are not in the best of heath. In that case, you are better to just lower your food intake until you are physically able to take on a restrictive diet. Most importantly, know exactly what you can eat and what your limitations are before you make a commitment.
